Devils winners at EFL awards 2017

Well done to Robert Papp (above) who won the Best & Fairest for EFL 2nd Div Reserves 2017. Great to see the key position marking player recognised for his consistently very good games. Many say Rob has the best marking hands at the club, but his ability to read the ball in flight is also outstanding.

Veteran Sam Bates (& Senior Assistant coach 2016 & 2017) also deserves congratulations for winning the Best & Fairest in the EFL Veterans. “Bater” was a fine senior player having played over 300 games, and his form and skills in the Veterans has continued to impress.

The Devils had 2 players named in the EFL Div 2 Team of the year, with Sean Young named at Full Back and Taylor Leggate on the half forward line.  Both players had very good seasons, and it is great that others have recognised this in 2017.

And in more great news, 2 Devils Premier Netball players were named in the EFL Premier league Team of the year.  Well done to Mary Livesy & Rebecca Subbiah

Devils in the Finals this Sunday

Our Development Team ( Reserves! ) plays in the 1st Semi Final against Lilydale this Sunday at Tormore reserve Boronia. Coach Luke “Rock” Slater has got the team hungry to give this a red hot shake, and all involved have confidence after a very strong 2nd half of the season.

We lost to them at Lilydale earlier in the season, but we got them when they played us at home. Well done to the players and Rock on making the finals and representing the Devils the best they can. We will all be there to support the team on Sunday.

“Hutchi” is retiring

Video of Hutchi being chaired off 2017

Devils champion Brad Hutchinson has advised the club he will be retiring from footy at the end of the season.

“Hutchi” is an outstanding footballer, and has been for a long time, both with the Devils and Stony Creek FC. He has played 133 games with Devils and 183 with Stony Creek & Alberton ( 316 Senior games). He also booted 113 goals for the Devils.

Brad played in 2 premiership sides with the Devils, and one with Stony Creek. He was named in the Devils team of the decade of 2001 to 2010, and has won 3 Senior Best & Fairests. At Stony Creek he won 5 Best & Fairests & one with Alberton. An outstanding list of achievements in football.

Brad brought a very highly consistent effort to every game he played and is greatly admired for his skills and relentless contribution to the team’s cause. “Hutchi” is truly one of the all time greats of Wantrina South FC.

A strong leader on & off the field, the Devils are a better football club because of the contribution of Brad Hutchinson.

We will miss watching him play our great game and wish him all the best for him and his family.
